If you are after an authentic farm experience then Canoelands Orchards is your spot. This family run farm offers Pick Your Own fruit at various times through out the year. I love coming here because it’s a bit bumpy around the edges, a bit rustic with an honest heart.
Canoelands Orchard was originally owned by John Cecil Christie who purchased the property in 1923. Since this time the orchard has stayed in the Christie family, and throughout the years it has produced lots of different fruit and vegetables including passion fruit, oranges, lemons, tomatoes, zucchini, squash and more.
Today the property is run by third generation Christie’s Nathan and Jamie, with lots of help from the extended family. It is a real family affair and you will definitely feel this when you visit.
There are lots of great things to do at the Canoelands. Read on to find out what is in store for you.
Pick your own Fruit and Vegetables
Tomatoes are available to pick from March to July each year
At various times of the year there are different fruits and vegetables in season around the farm. The orchard is well known for its stone fruit, apples, citrus and it now also grows some great veggies including eggplant, peas and tomatoes.
All crops are available as part of their ‘Pick your Own’ fruit picking program. There is a handy link on their website which details the growing season of each crop.
To pick your own fruit or veg you will need to check in at the Cafe and Gift Shop first. Here you will pay your entry fee and be given a ‘green’ bag to put your fruit or veg in. You are then free to pick the produce, but it is important to note that what you pick you must pay for! There is a per kilo cost for the produce, which will be disclosed to you when you pay the entry fee.
Visit the Canoelands Orchards farm animals
These guys are definitely high spirited!
There is a large, rather rustic, animal enclosure at the farm.
It’s a great spot for the kids to hang for a while and enjoy the animals. You’ll find pigs, sheep, goats, horses and alpacas!
Make sure to head all the way around the paddock and you’ll also be able to see the beehives.

Enjoy a walk through the orchards
Make sure to take a walk through the orchard
At over 100 acres the orchard is pretty big!
So make sure to take a wander around, for many of us it may be the first time to see a commercial orchard.
Picnic on the grass
The grassy lawn is a perfect picnic spot after picking and walking
The grassy lawn is the centre of the farm and is a great spot to stop after picking and walking. Bring a rug and a picnic and relax in this beautiful area. You’ll be guaranteed a visit from the friendly farm dog!
There is also a large covered ‘shed’ area, that has lots of tables and chairs in it as well if you are looking for a bit of shade.
Visit the Cafe and gift shop

You will also find a lovely range of gifts and trinkets.
On-site is also a rustic cafe which serves simple but nourishing fare, great if you are feeling lazy or a special occasion!
Relax with the kids on the playground
A simple but adequate playground is all the kids need
Just behind the Cafe and Gift Shop is a neat little playground, which is a perfect way to end the day.
The orchards also run seasonal activities including Tractor Rides, School Holiday programs, Birthday Parties, Weddings and school excursions. Check out their Bookings Page for more info.
Being a rural area, the water in the amenities block is not drinkable, so bring along plenty of drinking water with you.
The Orchard is open every weekend, during school holidays and on public holidays. Call ahead if you are considering visiting during the week.
