Collaroy Beach and Collaroy Beach Playground & Pool
Enjoy a swim in the beautiful Collaroy Pool
Without a doubt, Collaroy is one of my favourite spots to visit. In both summer and winter I love to head here for a BBQ, picnic, a splash and to enjoy the amazing views. With its great combination of rock pools, sandy beach, playground, ocean pools and great food options it is perfect for your next day out.
Collaroy is actually the southern end of the Narrabeen-Collaroy beach. At a combined length of 3.6km, Collaroy and Narrabeen form Sydney’s second longest beach.
Interestingly, Collaroy was named after a paddle steamer that crashed on the beach in 1884. Narrabeen was named after the daughter of the Aboriginal Chief at the time of white settlement in the area (which was in the 1840’s).
Collaroy Beach is as pretty as it gets
Collaroy Beach is an excellent spot for swimming, walking and exploring. Being such a long beach there are lots of spots to enjoy sand play, reading or sunbaking (with sun block of course). And its a great place to go for a long, sandy walk.
There is a beautiful man made rock wall that runs around some of the beach which is perfect for sitting and watching the world go by.
The beach is patrolled from the last weekend of September to the last weekend of April each year. To check times and patrol season check out Surf Life Saving.
The waves at Collaroy average around 1.0m high which makes it a good spot for competent swimmers. There can be rips and larger waves (especially during summer) so be sure to stay in the flags. If you are concerned (or aren’t a strong swimmer) you can go for a swim in the ocean pool instead!

Spine tingling amazing
Collaroy Pool is a little bit special. No matter what time of year you visit, you will find people enjoying this amazing spot. There is both a large adult pool and a great kids pool. The excellent thing about the kids pool is that it has super easy access via a sloped entry and a walkway with a handrail.
Awesomely the pool is also fully lit, so is a great spot to come for a twilight swim on a summer’s night.
There is tiered, concrete seating which is perfect for people watching and storing swimming gear. There is also a new set of toilets right at the pools.
With two separate pools Collaroy Pool is perfect for adults and kids
Collaroy Playground and Picnic Area
Collaroy Playground is set in a prime location and is fully fenced
Along with the amazing beach and pools, Collaroy also offers a pretty perfect playground.
Collaroy Playground is fully enclosed. Kids will love the equipment including climbing frames, swings, forts and stepping stones. The playground is also an all abilities playground.
At Collaroy Beach, visitors can access a FreeWheeler which provides wheelchair access onto the sand and the surf.
Along with the playground, Collaroy is also host to excellent grassy picnic areas, picnic tables and free BBQ’s.
Excellent picnic facilities
Collaroy Rock Ledge
Collaroy Rock Ledge is a perfect spot for kids to explore
Just past the ocean pool is a wonderful spot for kids to explore. It is a shallow rock ledge, just off the shore.
With lots of nooks and crannies, kids and adults can spend hours here just exploring, hunting, playing and enjoying this beautiful spot.

Lookout at Stanley and Florence Twight Reserve
A pretty perfect view
Many people don’t know that there is a wonderful lookout at the top of the grassy mound at Collaroy. Make sure to head up here (it is up above the pools) for some wonderful views across Collaroy, Narrabeen and Long Reef. It is an easy walk up and there is a great spot to sit and take in the view.
Long Reef and the Greenlink Walk
Enjoy the walk down to the Long Reef Rock Ledge
Just next door to Collaroy is Long Reef and one of my favourite spots in Sydney – the Long Reef Aquatic Reseve and the Greenlink Walk.
If you are looking for a bit more to do, then head over here to explore the Long Reef Rock Ledge. A perfect day would be starting at Long Reef, exploring the amazing rock ledge then heading over to Collaroy for a swim and picnic afterwards.Read our article on Long Reef to find out more.
One of the best things about Collaroy are its great amenities. When you visit here you will enjoy beach showers, toilets, inclusive playground, grassy picnic areas, accessible toilets, BBQs, a liberty swing and wi-fi access points.
There is a bus stop within 100 metres of the main playground area.
