Dating back to 1835 Experiment Farm Cottage is one of Australia’s oldest existing residences.
Situated in Harris Park, Experiment Farm Cottage is located on the site of Experiment Farm which was Australia’s first European farmstead. Experiment Farm was created by Australia’s first land grant to James Ruse to prove that self sufficiency was possible. The Cottage was built by Surgeon John Harris, who purchased the land from Ruse in 1793 for £40.00.
Today the house is furnished according to the time of Surgeon Harris and is available for viewing by the public. The gardens have also been recreated to reflect the time of Surgeon Harris.
