Government House is the official residence of the Governor of NSW. The gothic revival residence was completed in 1845 when Governor Sir George Gipps, 9th Governor of New South Wales, and his wife took up residence. The building has been modified over time to suit each Governor and today is a stunning architectural building.
Visitors are able to view the house as part of a guided tour on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Tours depart on the half hour from 10.00am to 4.00pm. The Gardens are open daily from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm
Important things to note for the tour:
Prior registration is required before entering the house, tickets are available from the Gatehouse next to the main gate.
Everyone must present valid identification to take part in the tour
Tours take 45 minutes
Check the visitors page before you go to see any variations to the tour timetable
Don’t be deterred by the fences that surround the residence.

Government House Sydney is located inside the Royal Botanic Gardens. The nearest gates to Government House are located on Macquarie Street to the left of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. From there it is a short walk to the main gate to Government House.
