The Nicholson Museum is Australia’s oldest university museum. It is home to the largest collection of antiquities in the Southern Hemisphere.
The museum comprises almost 30,000 artefacts of significance. The artefacts are from Egypt, Greece, Italy, Cyprus and the Near East. In addition the museum has an Egyptian mummy. While the museum is only small in scale, displays are well maintained with plenty of information about each item.
It is worthy to note that the museum hosts activity days. On these days members of the public (kids included) can handle some of the artifacts (under supervision). Check out their website for more details.
The museum is located in the historic Main Quadrangle (southern entrance of the Quadrangle) of the University of Sydney. It is open to the general public.
Entry is FREE!.
