The history of The Rocks only adds to its charm today as one of the most popular tourist spots in Sydney.
A day here is easily spent wandering the cobbled alleys and window shopping in the laneways. If you are looking for a free day out then visit The Rocks Discovery Museum (free entry), The Big Dig Archealogical site (free entry) or the Museum of Contemporary Art (also free entry!). Or visit Susannah Place Museum (which does have an entry fee).
Enjoy a picnic at Dawes Point , Hickson Road Reserve or First Fleet Park.
Take a stroll through the Nurses Walk and or wander The Rocks Markets on a Sunday and enjoy a cheeky drink it one of its many historical pubs. And if you are up to it head up to the Sydney Observatory .
Make sure you visit the mysterious Foundation Park (located on the right-hand side around 500m into the lane named Gloucester Walk). Foundation Park is on the site of what was no’s 2 to 16 Gloucester Street (now known as Gloucester Walk). These houses were demolished in 1938 and a park formed on the site in 1972. In 1996 the foundations of the houses were marked out with low walls and now even include furniture…..a fascinating place!
Note: the precinct is open 24 hours a day, however individual attractions will have their own opening hours.
