Vaucluse House became Australia’s first official house museum in 1915 – over 100 years ago! It was formally the house of Barrister and Politician William Charles Wentworth and his family. Over five decades, from 1827, Wentworth and his wife Sarah developed the house and garden into a beautiful estate.
The house is spread across three levels and showcase living and sleeping quarters as well as a kitchen, cellar, stables and gardens . There are winding staircases that will lead you up and through the house.
Children will enjoy the 10 hectares of land – look for the waterfall in the southern paddock! Kids will love the goats, chickens and ducks.
Guided tours run from reception every hour from 10.00am to 3.00pm. Or why not grab a self-guided audio tour (also from reception). There are also printed guides available (in various languages).
For real value make sure you check out the Living Museums Pass which offers entry to 12 museums for one price ($24.00 per adult as at September 2018).
