On Sunday 23 February 2020 a State Memorial will take place to remember the bushfires and subsequent loss of life and property that took place in 2019 and 2020.

The State Memorial will pay tribute to the three NSW RFS firefighters, the three American firefighting aircrew, and community members who lost their lives in NSW as a result of the recent bushfires.

It will also recognise the valued contribution of firefighters from all Australian states and territories, as well as the United States, Canada and New Zealand.

All members of the public are encouraged to attend to recognise the lives lost, the sacrifices made and to show support for the families and communities impacted by the fires.

Who can attend?

All relatives, friends, representatives of involved organisations and members of the public are welcome to attend the State Memorial.

Also, in attendance will be Premier Gladys Berejiklian and NSW RFS Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons.

Delta Goodrem will perform “Let It Rain”, which she penned after watching the devastation from the bushfires across Australia. All proceeds of the song will go to aid the bushfire crisis and relief efforts.

The Sydney Children’s Choir and Aboriginal cultural group, Koomurri will also perform.

Program

The program for the Memorial is as follows. It is requested that visitors start arriving from 10.30am.

  • 10:30am: Gates open.
  • 11:20am: Attendees must be seated. Ushers will be in attendance to assist with seating.
  • 11:30am: Official proceedings commence.
  • 12:30pm: Official proceedings conclude (approximately).

Registration

Registration for the State Memorial is not required.

Accessibility

Qudos Bank Arena is for all ages and abilities. Accessible seating at Qudos Bank Arena is available.

Dress code

NSW RFS members are requested to wear:

  • tunic with full medals
  • service dress (shirt, tie, medals)
  • clean PPC (yellows with medals).

Other emergency personnel are requested to wear uniform in accordance with agency protocols. Members of the public should dress in business attire/smart casual.

Travel

Travel on public transport services to and from Olympic Park will be free for emergency services personnel in uniform as well as accompanying family members or friends.
