Return and Earn Home Collection Service
The Return and Earn Scheme was welcomed by many of us as a way to encourage people to recycle plus a way to earn a little bit of cash.
But if you are anything like me it can be a bit of a struggle to get to a recycling depot.
Well I have found an amazing new way to recycle those containers!
Read on to find out about this awesome, easy way to recycle your bottles and cans.
Prestons Container Deposit Centre Home Collection Service
Prestons Container Deposit Centre (now known as Red Frog Recycling) is a collection point for the NSW Return and Earn Scheme. They offer consumers and organisations several services including a Home Collection Service.
You read that right….it’s a home collection service for your eligible bottles and cans!
This service means that your containers will be picked up from your residence. Plus you will still receive your full 10c refund for every container!
To be eligible for the Home Collection Service you will need to register via the Prestons (Redfrog) website.
Once your form has been received and processed you will receive an email confirming your registration. Make sure to check your junk mail for confirmation emails.
After a period of time (up to 3 months) you will receive an email advising that your collection bin is being delivered.
The bin is actually an OTTO bin but it is blue in colour. The bin will be delivered to the outside of your residence.
Due to the popularity of the service there is now an annual $21.00 fee per household.
How are the bottles collected?
When your blue OTTO bin is full, you will request a pickup online. It is preferable if you have a full bin, plus full bag ready for collection.
The full bin will be collected and swapped for an empty one.
Prestons will then process your containers and send your refund to your nominated bank account. Each full bin is worth around $25.00 to $40.00. Easy!
Important to note
Please make sure that you only place eligible containers in the bins. You can mix glass, cans and plastic bottles together. To check if your container is eligible you can enter the barcode on the EPA search site (https://cds.epa.nsw.gov.au/CDSContainerSearchPage).
Containers that are not eligible for the refund are:
- Plain milk or milk substitute containers
- Flavoured milk containers of 1 litre or more
- Pure fruit or vegetable juice containers of 1 litre or more
- Glass containers for wine and spirits
- Casks (plastic bladders in boxes) for wine and casks for water of 1 litre or more
- Sachets for wine of 250 millilitres or more
- Containers for cordials, or concentrated fruit and vegetable juices
- Registered health tonics.
There is a waiting period of around 3 months for your blue bin. You can however collect containers once you have registered for the service and Prestons will pick them up free of charge.
The Prestons Home Collection service is currently servicing the Sydney metropolitan area. Check with them if you are unsure if they will service your area.
